Why I Wear Vintage

From: lindyshopper.com |

In spite of the naysayers, I’d like to share my love and philosophy about vintage clothing and perhaps refute some misconceptions or perceptions about vintage clothing in the process. I’ve come up with a list of reasons why I think vintage clothing is worth adding to my wardrobe and why I enjoy vintage clothing so much.

ILHC from the Outside.

From: allthecatsjoinin.wordpress.com |

Confession: I didn’t get my ticket to ILHC, and ended up hunkering down with my wife and the kitties while everyone else basked in the dance awesomeness. But like many other dancers, I’ve been soaking in videos, and decompressing with friends about the event. I want to give a shout out to Max Desens who made the finals of the open Jack and Jill. A year and a half ago, the boy couldn’t even do a swing out, and now he’s turned into a rockstar. His work ethic around dancing has been amazing, and its been a joy and a privilege to teach him.

100 Years of London Fashion and Dance (video)

From: www.rikomatic.com |

I kind of love this video "100 Years / Style East London", an ad for a new shopping center in London, that showcases fashion and dancing from the 1910s to today.  Those transitions between shots, mixing up all the different outfits, was really well done!

Highlights from ILHC

I am kicking myself for not seeing this live (I missed it by 25 seconds). This must have been unreal!! Sitting in the kitchen watching this was still an emotional experience, so I can only imagine what it must have been like being in the ballroom during this momentous occasion. While watching the video, I was screaming and hooting and hollering for them!! I actually shed some tears in honor of their awesomeness. Fuck, this totally touches my heart.

How to Handle Awkward Situations in Dancing…

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

We’ve all been there – the awkward, creepy, or uncomfortable social dance.  You’ve just met this person and within the first two-counts they’ve shoved their pelvis towards you or clamped themselves around your leg.  Okay. Okay. So many of the dances we enjoy – like Blues, Swing, Salsa, Bachata and West Coast Swing – involve slinky closed positions with occasional flirtatious styling.    And of course we know from personal experience that it takes some time to become adept at social dance etiquette, so we are lenient with newcomers.  Usually, the creepy guy (or gal) is simply misunderstood and/or lacking in social skills to know that they’re being too touchy or making you uncomfortable.

Event Review: (ILHC) International Lindy Hop Championships 2011

From: taintwhatyoudo.wordpress.com |

In spite of a hurricane and an earthquake, ILHC 2011 pressed on this past weekend in Alexandria, Virginia. With attendees from over 20+ different countries this year such as Lithuania and South Korea, ILHC lived up to its name as an international competition.

ILHC 2011 Vendors

From: lindyshopper.com |

I had the pleasure of dancing and competing at this year’s International Lindy Hop Championships, held just outside of Washington, D.C. in Alexandria, Virginia. The event was a unique mix of swing dancers, in varying styles of dance, from around the globe. I think the event is best summed up by saying that ILHC is where you can see all those people you see dancing on YouTube – but there’s nothing better than seeing it live, as a video can’t quite capture the energy these couples and teams generate or the dynamic in the room.

Yehoodi’s "Beaver Lodge" Ep 1 is online: where the lindy ladies get their say!

From: www.rikomatic.com |

Last week, the lindy boys got to have their fun on the "Sausage Fest" podcast, episode one.  Now its the ladies' turn with episode one of "Beaver Lodge"! This is a bawdy, probably NSFW, gabfest where the lindy ladies get to talk about whatever they want, dance related or otherwise. This show features our host miss Nicole "Mouth" Frydman, joined by Meg Taylor, Angie Sabin and Ann Mony.

My favorite part is when people are dancing on the cement blocks (1:54) and with the guards (2:10). Gaah, I want video doing that!

Event Review: Lindy 500 & Baltimore Lindy Open

From: taintwhatyoudo.wordpress.com |

If you were wondering what time it was this past weekend, the wrong answer would have been Lindy Focus Boom time. That’s because in the words of Andrew Thigpen, it was actually….
