The Chase – The Move of the Year? Neat recap of ILHC’s…

From: lindyhopr.tumblr.com |

Neat recap of ILHC’s events from Mikey Pedroza. The Chase sequence really dominated the competition as a great couples move. It’s actually unbelievable how many times the pros did this, and just how many different variations to it they can pull off. Juan & Sharon seem to really love it, and to tell the truth, theirs looks really, really good.

Pulse in Lindy and Blues

From: allthecatsjoinin.wordpress.com |

I am a firm believer that pulse is one of the core elements to all social dancing. I can’t claim to have an expert opinion on the matter because I lack knowledge in ballroom/latin/tango. . .basically, anything that isn’t swing. From what I’ve seen though, every dance has its own means of pulse. When we are teaching, Susanne and I emphasize that the pulse is the primary means of communicating rhythm with your partner.

Miss L Fire Fall 2011 Collection

From: lindyshopper.com |

OH. MY. HAWT. It’s been a long time since I came across a shoe that I couldn’t get out of my head, that I was so distracted about that I couldn’t focus on anything else until I figured out how to make it mine. Miss L Fire‘s fall 2011 collection has this shoe, and several other shoes with a distinctly jazz age styling that are simply amazing. Miss L Fire always has some really quirky and amazing shoes, and this goes for the fall collection as well, but there are a few pairs that just defy awesome and somehow become…art. And do you see all these mid-height heels?! OK, I’ve talked this up enough, check out the shoes!

Queen Mary Art Deco Festival 2011

From: vforvintageblog.blogspot.com |

Has it really been 3 weeks since my last post? As much as I enjoyed my little blogging break, I'm glad to be back! As I mentioned in my last post, this past weekend we attended the 7th Annual Queen Mary Art Deco Festival, hosted by the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles. In addition to being an incredible time, the Festival is a fundraiser for restoration projects on the Queen Mary. It's amazing that we have this treasure here available to the public, and the recent work done on the ship has been great - I think she looks better and better every time I go!

OMG…Dance Shoes!

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

What you where on you feet when dancing is VERY important!  Each style of dance requires specific types of movements and our shoes help us to create and embellish the lines we are painstakingly trying to perfect.  And shoes, like our clothes, are an outlet for self-expression; Plus, they’re just plain pretty!

Dance Etiquette by Atomic Ballroom

From: johoffberg.com |

I think this is a pretty solid list which I found on the Atomic Ballroom website and figured I’d repost and add a little (remember, I’m a tad sarcastic)!

ILHC 2011: The Secret of The Plot

From: jsalmonte.wordpress.com |

I have a soft spot for Naomi. Peter is ok. But one of the things that I’ve always appreciated about Naomi is the sense of class she brings to her dancing. It’s a big reason why I’ve come to believe that Lindy Hop can be used to legitimately express a much wider array of emotions than what most people typically associate with it (Raw, Bad ass, silliness, etc.)  Her Frenesi routine is still one of my favorites.

ILHC 2011 LED Talk: Dorry Segev on Building a Scene

From: taintwhatyoudo.wordpress.com |

A few weeks back at ILHC they had as an alternative to traditional workshop classes featured at most swing dance events. These were LED talks, short lectures that were entertaining and educational about swing dancing. (If you are unfamilar with the background format of the ILHC LED talks, you can find a description at this link.) One talk I want to go into detail about was Dorry Segev’s talk on building a scene and his experiences as one of the main organizers for the Baltimore scene.

Cleveland’s “Junior Jitterbugs” Win Junior Championships in International Competition

From: johoffberg.com |

Last weekend, a group of Cleveland elementary school kids brought home the top prizes in the junior division at the International Lindy Hop Competition held in Washington DC  ideastream’s Mhari Saito reports.

The Etiquette of Stealing

From: swungover.wordpress.com |

I was watching the nifty SWLindyFest 2011 DVD given out at ILHC, and the jam on the DVD shows what in my opinion is a pretty good example of good stealing etiquette (note: this YouTube clip is NOT the camera the DVD uses). Now, it’s not like I think good stealing etiquette is what we dancers should be worrying about at the moment. But I figured, what the hell.

Swing Cats Jamboree – Louis Prima

From: swingjazzblues.blogspot.com |

Check out this great short film, Swing Cats Jamboree, where Louie Prima and his band performs 3-4 songs. There are also some dance in the video clip, for example a tap version of shim sham.

Midwest Lindy Fest – Invitational Jack & Jill – Michael…

From: lindyhopr.tumblr.com |

Because I can’t post ILHC videos all day all the time, here’s a neat J&J with Dargoff and Marie. I’ve seen Dargoff dancing before but I didn’t really realize who he was until this past ILHC, in which every dance he competed in became utterly hilarious. I’ve already posted the showcase of infinite swing outs on my personal tumblr, so here’s a more “serious” dance he had. Serious, and yet articles of clothing are still flying off of him.
