Hair Tutorial – Day 15 – Big Bun

From: johoffberg.com |

I love this girl! I’ve been watching her videos for a bit, and this is definitely an easier one, but still great to keep in mind. That being said, this is more of a long hair style. I bet you could do something similar with medium length hair, it just might not be as easy.

Vintage Jazz Buffet (2 of 5)

From: allthecatsjoinin.wordpress.com |

This post is part 2 of a series that lists one hundred different songs by one hundred different artists. It is designed to be used as an inspiration for dancers to explore the catalogs of our great vintage jazz recording artists. I’ve placed what I consider to be iconic artists in bold.

Return of the Old School

From: jsalmonte.wordpress.com |

I was perusing the Herrang teacher line up just to check it out even though I don’t have any plans on going. Being the center of the Lindy-verse, it’s a just interesting to see who they’re bringing in each year. I have no plans to do another analysis like I did last year, but I noticed a few new names including Laura Glaess & Mike Roberts, Alice Mei & Thomas Blacharz, and Sarah Breck & Dax Hock.

Flapper Flock on Etsy

From: lindyshopper.com |

One of the few Etsy shops I revisit regularly is Flapper Flock, an Etsy store focused solely on 1920′s and 1930′s clothing, accessories, and other odds and ends from the jazz era. Flapper Flock is a division of the seller’s brick-and-mortar store in Redlands, California called Hobo’s Vinatage.

Hair Tutorial – Day 14 – Pin Curls

From: johoffberg.com |

This is primarily what I do with my hair when I am trying to curl it. It’s easy to do and easy to sleep in. Typically I’ll keep my hair in pin curls for two days and then when I take them out I have big, bouncy hair. Take a look at my banner (top of website); that’s what my hair can look like when I do this to my hair.

An Affair To Remember

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

This week marked the first anniversary of my love affair with Lindy Hop. And as all relationships it has had its ups and downs.  It started mildly enough one Tuesday evening as I shyly stepped into a basic series class.  Lindy hop was interesting and unassuming, but seemed to hold my attention.  Another encounter the next week continued to pique my interest, but I was awkward and reluctant at our meetings.

Vintage Jazz Buffet (1 of 5)

From: allthecatsjoinin.wordpress.com |

After talking about pop music as a gateway for beginners to connect to lindy hop, I started thinking about how to get dancers more deeply invested in and knowledgable about vintage jazz/swing/big band. Some of that comes from time and exposure. Some of it comes from encouraging them to learn about the music, talking about it, sharing favorite songs, proclaiming “I love this song” when a great song comes on.

Lindy in the Park: Free Swing Dancing in Golden Gate Park since 1996

From: www.rikomatic.com |

I had a fantastic time today at "Lindy in the Park," a weekly outdoor swing dance that happens every Sunday afternoon in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.  A mainstay of the Bay Area lindy scene since 1996, Lindy in the Park is a great public outreach for the dance, since it attracts hundreds of passersby, from tourists to locals, many of whom stay for the free swing dance lesson at noon.
