Yehoodi Talk Show #128: Interview with Judy Pritchett about the Frankie Manning Scholarship!April 15, 2011This time around, the Yehoodi crew -- Spuds, Letta and me -- takes a moment to talk to Judy Pritchett , Frankie Manning's longtime companion, about The Frankie Manning Lindy Hop Ambassador Scholarship Program. I can't believe it took us this long to bring Judy on, but it's great that we finally connected with her! |
Confessions of a Dance Shoe AddictApril 15, 2011Well, I mean, if I’m a dance addict, then it only seems natural that I would have a shoe addiction too, right? |
Contrast ButtonsApril 15, 2011I’m heading up to DCLX this weekend, but before I abandon the blog for another dance weekend (you understand, right?) I’ll leave you with these two dresses. Red with green, green with red, but the real detail here is the contrast – most dresses try to match buttons, but I love these solid dresses with contrasting buttons. It really makes the buttons pop and becomes even more of a decorative detail than a functional necessity. This is definitely something I’d like to see more of (paging ModCloth, Anthropologie, Trashy Diva…). |
How to Save a LifeApril 15, 2011As I mentioned before, I started dancing around my junior year of college. I was that kid with lots of energy and flailing arms. I probably did more than my share of arm yanking. I recently heard someone describe toddlers as all will power and no skill. I was definitely a toddler at dancing. I had no money for classes and danced as time permitted, but I was still a casual enthusiast. Then, everything changed. |

Jammin’ the blues – Marie Bryant’s exit from a Russian kick into swivelsApril 12, 2011Ok so it’s not exactly a variation but I can’t stop watching this clip, Jammin’ the blues: |
Jazz from Preservation HallApril 12, 2011Of all the music I heard in New Orleans, my favorite memories and music come from Preservation Hall. |
Magnoli ClothiersApril 11, 2011It’s back to reality, post-Experiment, but while I was away I did have a chance to chat with instructor Bobby White about some of his impeccable garments. He directed me to Magnoli Clothiers as a great source for vintage reproduction three piece suits. I must agree with Mr. Whi-te on this one, as the tailoring and fabrics look spot on. |
DJing for A Collegiate Shag EventApril 11, 2011It was a fun weekend which I intend to write a more in depth post about later, but for now I wanted to write about a problem I seriously had to deal with with preparing for this event. How do I DJ for a Collegiate Shag event? |
The French Quarter Festival & Fleur de LindyApril 09, 2011If you’re going to travel outside of SoCal for Lindy exchange, I don’t think I can say enough good things about Fleur de Lindy and the French Quarter Festival. |
