“Swing Kids” Part 1 of 2: The MovieMarch 08, 2011As a Lindy Hopper who started dancing in the mid-90s there are a few modern films that really influenced me and “Swing Kids” is right at the top. Released in 1993 “Swing Kids” discussed an area of history that was all but forgotten during the horror that was World War II. |
Swing Kids (1993) I wonder if any movie has ever really captured…December 10, 2010I wonder if any movie has ever really captured a realistic representation of swing dance culture? I love Swing Kids (un-ironically, for your information), and the dance scenes are fun to watch, though understandably, these are actors and not professional dancers. "Toy Story 3" Dance Scene Copies Lindy Hop Viral VideoOctober 26, 2010Captain Morgan on Yehoodi.com posted that there are some very telling similarities between a dance scene in "Toy Story 3" and a clip of dancers at the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown from 2006. The dancers in the ULHS clip are Todd Yannacone and Frida Segerdahl. Watching the two clips together, it's hard to imagine the inspiration coming from anywhere else. |
Monochrome Monday! Here’s a clip of Hollywood-style Lindy…October 25, 2010Monochrome Monday! Here’s a clip of Hollywood-style Lindy Hop from 1942’s Rings on Her Fingers (which is apparently available on Hulu?) Dean Collins and Jewel McGowan are on display. Check out the lead spin on the right side of the screen around @0:40-@0:43. |
Yup. Okay, so the Toy Story 3 Lindy Hop featurette is going…October 24, 2010Yup. Okay, so the Toy Story 3 Lindy Hop featurette is going around the interwebs, and my fellow Yehoodis pointed this out. The two dancers that Woody and Jessie seem to be imitating are Todd Yannacone and Frida Segerdahl of the Silver Shadows and Harlem Hot Shots. |
The Savoy King: Chick Webb & the Music That Changed AmericaOctober 15, 2010It seems like there is going to be a movie made about Chick Webb and his life called The Savoy King: Chick Webb and the Music That Changed America. |
