A friend of mine from college was kind enough to send me the clip below that she recorded when she was attending a Caravan Palace concert in Quebec, Canada.

Jump Session Videos

From: jsalmonte.wordpress.com |

Not very many things surprise me these days in relation to Lindy Hop, but I’m more than a little shocked to see Jump Session videos online now.  Many of them by the event promoter, Tonya Morris.  It’s surprising because the Jump Session Show was the last major hold out of must see Lindy Hop performances that wasn’t previously available for free online.

Perusing the interwebs and I found the greatest swing video ever.  Before there was Mad Dog, there was Team USA

Hot Mikado

Here is colour 16mm footage (no sound) from the 1939 production of The Hot Mikado, at the New York World’s Fair. The musical was an all-black adaptation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado, with jazzy tunes, big-name performers and famous dancers, including Bill Bojangles Robinson and the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers:

Go Down Death 1944

From: www.sharondavis.com.au |

Here’s that snippet of a black couple dancing in the 1944 film Go Down Death that I mentioned to some people recently. Juan stumbled across a compilation clip someone had thrown together on YouTube, and the first half of it was all vintage burlesque from Harlem, so he was showing it to me to see if I had seen it before (I had), but then this little gem popped up at the end, what a treasure!

Top 10 Ballroom Dance Scenes in Vintage Film

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

Vintage films are filled with wonderful dance scenes that just aren’t replicated in modern film anymore, especially ballroom dance scenes. There’s a magic and elegance watching a couple twirl across the dance floor, and have inspired many of us to want to learn how to dance with a partner in the first place.

I <3 The YouTubes: Andrew and Karen

From: www.breannaperry.com |

For today's love of the YouTubes, I picked one of my favorite recent routines, which debuted at Lindy Focus just a little over a month ago. Andrew and Karen are fabulous dancers, and their choreography is just as good--full of great energy, great dancing, and great humor. I don't know if I know any other dancers that use their face to the extent that these two do. Plus, have you SEEN Karen's hair?!
