DWTS Week 5: TV Theme Week

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

DWTS Week 5 was a hodge-podge of dances, as each pairing did a different dance, but all to some of TV’s most popular theme music.

DWTS Week 4: The Results

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

I can hardly type this for sheer excitement.  Yes, that’s right – The Situation has officially been eliminated from DWTS! After an abysmal tango that was all showy lifts and absolutely no tango steps whatsoever, I have to hand it to his partner, Karina Smirnoff, for playing to his abs…err, his strengths.

DWTS Week 4: Acoustic Week

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

My initial thoughts when Acoustic Week was introduced were that DWTS would feature better music and a slightly more intimate setting.  But I didn’t realize DWTS had a masochism streak. Not only did they have their dancers perform on a substantially smaller round stage as opposed to their lengthy rectangular one, but the judges gave two scores this week.  That’s right – dancers were given separate scores on technique and performance for the rumba or the Argentine tango, two very complicated ballroom dances.  And just to make things extra fun, lifts were also allowed.

DWTS Week 3: The Results

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

Last night DWTS said goodbye to Margaret Cho and her partner, Louis Van Amstel.  Boo.

DWTS Week 3: Story Hour

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

This week’s DWTS had dancers dancing the samba, the waltz, or the foxtrot while simultaneously telling a story with their dance.

DWTS Week 2: The Results

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

The Situation is safe for another week as we said goodbye to Michael Bolton last night on Dancing with the StarsMichael Bolton and his partner, Chelsie Hightower, were eliminated after a poor jive to the song “Hound Dog.” The dance started out with Michael crawling out of a doghouse (a little too literal way to begin a dance) and unfortunately his dancing just wasn’t up to par.

DWTS Week 2: The Jive and the Quickstep

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

I was not as enthused for this week’s dancing for one big reason: why would you dance the jive or the quickstep when you can Lindy Hop?  I know, I know – there is a ballroom standard to be met here but I find that dancers end up looking like prancing show ponies (despite one of the judges, Bruno, insisting that Audrina Patridge is turning into Secretariat – and that I will agree on).

DWTS Week 1: The Results

The DWTS Week 1 Results show aired last night and all I can say is: crud.

DWTS Season 11 Kicks Off!

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

Out of everyone who danced last night I think we have three dancers who are going to be contenders for the mirror ball trophy.  Jennifer Grey proved that she is definitely one to watch and that she remembered all the skill she learned on Dirty Dancing. I think her Viennese Waltz made made Patrick proud last night.

DWTS Season 11 is Here!

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

The days are getting shorter and fall is approaching and you know what that means – it’s time for Season 11 of Dancing with the Stars!

Cyd Charisse: Dancing in the Dark

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

Cyd Charisse had one of the most spectacular dancing careers, and is known primarily for her dancing in Singin’ in the Rain and The Band Wagon. And of course, she’s also remembered for having the best pair of legs – ever.  MGM thought so too, as her legs were insured for a reported $5 million dollars.

Fred Astaire: Dancing Cheek to Cheek

From: www.atomicballroom.com |

Can’t act. Slightly bald. Also dances. This was the review that RKO’s David O. Selznick gave Fred Astaire after his first screen test.  The man who would arguably become one of America’s top dancers and did more than anyone else to revolutionize the world of dance was once panned by studio heads, and a memo sent out by Selznick indicated that the only thing Astaire had going for him was his charm.
